DC Comics To Raising Most Of Titles Back To $3.99

Back in spring of 2016 there was quite the buzz around DC Comics as they launched DC Rebirth. Part of the excitement was the announcement by the co-publishers Dan DiDio and Jim Lee that all the titles would be at a $2.99 price point and that some of the titles would be twice a month. This was a big deal as it seemed like their rival Marvel Comics seemed to be consistently raising the prices on their titles especially their #1’s and special event books. But that is all going to change.

Just about two years after the Rebirth started, DC comic book readers are going to have to pay a little more at their local comic book shop. Via comicbook.com we have learned that DC Comics has announced that all of its ongoing titles will be priced at $3.99 for both print and digital copies.

The only exception to the price increase for now are the kids titles for DC and their New Age of DC Heroes line which features some of their new characters and teams like The Terrifics, Sideways, Silencer, Damage and Curse of Brimstone.

With this price increase it will be interesting to see is we see titles like Batman and others go back to once a month or if they will continue to send them out bi-monthly despite the price increase. With Rebirth being such a success, it was only a matter of time before the entire line of books went back to $3.99. Especially with them keeping and bringing in so much talent to DC Comics like Brian Michael Bendis, John Romita Jr., Tom King, Clay Mann and so many others. Also with so many changes happening within the DC Comic Book Universe right now, this would be a perfect time to institute this change.

It is also noteworthy that DC Comics also recently changed it’s digital strategy. They are removing the complimentary digital copies from most of their titles, although they will still have them in special and high profile issues.

What are your thoughts on the price increase? Will the new price have you dropping some books? Let us know in the comment section below!
