Titans was the first live action exclusive series to the DC Universe streaming service. Now we are being treated to Doom Patrol and soon we will have Swamp Thing as well. Titans saw the beginnings of the iconic team that included Robin aka Dick Grayson played by Brenton Thwaites, Starfire played by Anna Diop, Raven played by Teagan Croft and Beast Boy played by Ryan Potter. During the first season we saw some of the characters literally and figuratively fight of inner demons. Next season they will be faced with a familiar foe in Deathstroke.
We had already reported about Deathstroke’s children being cast, but today via Deadline we have learned that Esai Morales will play the role of Slade Wilson aka Deathstroke on season 2 of Titans. This character has been tormenting the Titans since his creation in the second issue of DC Comics’ The New Teen Titans #2 in December 1980 by Marv Wolfman and George Perez. In this book he was introduced as Deathstroke the Terminator.
Here is his character bio from Titans:
“Slade Wilson is known for being DC’s deadliest assassin. While serving his country, Slade became an elite soldier before government testing enhanced his physiology to near superhuman levels, putting him on a path of darkness and revenge. To his family, Slade is a father and husband, but to the rest of the world, he is feared by many as the infamous Deathstroke; selling his services to the highest bidder as the ruthless assassin that never gives up and never misses.”
This character is very familiar to the DC Universe. He has been featured in countless animated and live action DC properties. For example, he was the main antagonist in the fan favorite Teen Titans animated series that aired on Cartoon Network. He was also the antagonist in last year’s animated feature film Teen Titans Go! To The Movies. Many fans will also remember that Manu Bennett also played the character in The CW’s Arrow and that Joe Manganiello also had a quick crack at the character in a cameo appearance in the 2017 Warner Bros. film Justice League.
Morales has recently been in Netflix’s Ozark, Amazon Prime’s Mozart In The Jungle, HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm and NBC’s Chicago PD. He is repped by Innovative Artists, LINK Entertainment, Eric Feig Entertainment & Media Law and Espada PR.
