DC’s Strange Adventures Trailer: Is King & Gerad’s New Comic Bounding Toward An Eisner?

It’s difficult to imagine the DC Rebirth happened just about four years ago in 2016. Up to that point, Batman had been helmed by the amazing Scott Snyder who gave us so many good story arcs like The Court of Owls, Death of the Family, and Zero Year to name a few. Now with this relaunch, the responsibilities of DC’s most popular character would be taken by Tom King, who had just wrapped up his critically acclaimed Vision series at Marvel. For me as a huge Batman fan and as much as I had been enjoying his run with the Dark Knight, I never thought that he would then go on to create one of my favorite mini-series of all time, Mr. Miracle.

For that twelve-issue mini-series, he teamed up with artist Mitch Gerads and took the comic book world by storm with his amazing storytelling abilities. The series follows a man’s trauma and his road to recovery alongside his supportive wife and new baby. The run is complemented with artwork so beautiful that some pages needed no words to convey what the reader needed to understand. When the series was all set and done, both King and Gerads had received five Eisner Awards for their efforts.

Now let’s come back to 2020 as we approach the release of their next book together. Strange Adventures not only re-teams them but brings in artist Evan “Doc” Shaner to the creative team. This DC Black Label mini-series places the atomic age hero, Adam Strange, in a bind as he is an alien hero from the planet Rann. But some of his past decisions have come back to haunt him and has put him in quite a bind on Earth, where him and his wife had decided to retire. Today DC has released a trailer for the upcoming series which you can check out above!

Here is the synopsis provided by DC for Strange Adventures #1

After winning five Eisner Awards and topping year-end “best of lists,” the comic book of 2019 was Mister Miracle. The comic book of 2020 will be Strange Adventures.

The Mister Miracle team of writer Tom King and artist Mitch Gerads are joined by fan-favorite artist Evan “Doc” Shaner to bring you an epic tale in the tradition of Watchmen, The Dark Knight Returns, and DC: The New Frontier—a story of blood, war, and lovethat readers will be talking about for years to come.

Adam Strange is the hero of Rann, a man famous throughout the galaxy for his bravery and honor. After leading his adopted home tovictory in a great planetary war, Adam and his wife Alanna retire to Earth, where they are greeted by cheers, awards, and parades. But not all is as happy and nice as it seems, as the decisions Adam made during battles on Rann come back to haunt his family and threaten the entire DC Universe. And now a surprise DC hero will have to choose between saving Adam Strange and saving the world.

A story like no other, Strange Adventures is an ambitious, thrilling, shocking, and beautiful 12-issue saga that will push Adam Strange to the breaking point—and beyond!

Recently, in a panel, Dan Didio, co-publisher of DC at Long Beach Comic Expo in Long Beach, California, talked about how if we were fans of Mister Miracle, we would be blown away by Strange Adventures. If you could not tell by the beginning of this piece, I am very excited to start reading this next month when it finally hits comic book stores everywhere.
