A few good westerns come across on the big screen now and then. With Dead For a Dollar, two very good actors, Christoph Waltz and Willem Dafoe, will go head-to-head and toe-to-toe in this western.
Early buzz is that it is a western film to see this year, and it’s even an official selection into this year’s Venice Film Festival.
Here is the official synopsis for Dead For a Dollar:
Veteran bounty hunter Max Borlund is deep into Mexico, where he encounters professional gambler and outlaw Joe Cribbens—a sworn enemy he sent to prison years before. Max is on a mission to find and return Rachel Kidd, the wife of a wealthy businessman, who as the story is told to Max, has been abducted by Buffalo Soldier Elijah Jones. Max is ultimately faced with a showdown to save honor.
The rest of the cast included Rachel Brosnahan (House of Cards, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Brandon Scott (Dead to Me, This Is Us), Warren Burke (One Call Away), Benjamin Bratt (Miss Congeniality, Coco), Hamish Linklater (The Big Short, Battleship), and Guy Burnet (Oppenheimer, Ray Donovan). Walter Hill (48 Hrs., Aliens) directed the movie from the screenplay written by Matt Harris (The Starling) and Hill.

No doubt, this pairing of former Oscar winner Christoph Waltz and former Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe presents two of the best actors in the business. Another plus is with Walter Hill at the helm, the western is in good hands with an experienced person who directed The Long Riders, Geronimo: An American Legend, Wild Bill, and television episodes for the western series Broken Trail and Deadwood.
Dead for a Dollar is in theaters on September 30.
