With Deadpool 2 Super Duper $@%!#& Cut out digitally today and Blu-ray on August 21st, we are getting some extras about some of the things that went on behind the scenes. In this case we are talking about an A-list role that was so secret that not even some of the other actors on the same set knew about it ahead of time.
In Deadpool fashion Ryan Reynolds took on the role of another one of the characters in Deadpool 2, the Juggernaut. According to The Hollywood Reporter not even Stefan Kapicic, who plays the X-Men character Colossus in the two Deadpool films, knew about Reynolds’ additional role saying that, “I didn’t know who was going to be doing the voice of Juggernaut.”
According to Kapicic, he was surprised one day during post production on the film’s Vancouver set when he and Reynolds were both getting into their mocap gear. “Ryan is always there when I’m working on Colossus, helping me with the lines and giving me ideas,” Kapicic says. “Then I saw Ryan getting into the CGI costume, and I’m like, ‘What’s going on, man? Did I miss something?'”
So not only did Reynolds star as Deadpool, but also as the unstoppable Juggernaut who has a big fight with Colossus in the third act of Deadpool 2. He provided the voice and facial performance capture to bring the classic X-Men character to the big screen. But director for the film David Leitch commented that during the principle photography for the film a stuntman wearing a grey suit filled in for the Juggernaut to serve as reference points for the animators since the character is CGI.
