Deadpool Moves Under Kevin Feige, Rating Reportedly Still A Big Question Mark In MCU

Things over at Disney continue to evolve and change over time. Back when Disney first acquired most of 20th Century Fox not too long ago, it seemed clear the Deadpool would continue to exist in its current, R-rated form. Rather than try and adapt him into the MCU, they would keep him under the Fox banner so as to allow him to retain his identity.

It looks like that, in the wake of Disney’s $170M loss in the third quarter thanks to 20th Century Fox’s disappointing performance, they may be going a different route. Brent Lang, the executive editor over at Variety, noted the following during the recent earnings call:

“Iger notes X-Men, Deadpool, Fantastic 4 are now under Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige’s control. Hear from sources that there are debates about whether Deadpool can move seamlessly between R-rated solo outings and PG-13 rated MCU movies.”

Now, most of this isn’t really news. We knew the mutants and Fantastic Four would be heading over to Marvel Studios. Feige himself even mentioned Fantastic Four at Hall H during this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. However, the inclusion of Deadpool is an odd one, and the rumored debate over its R or PG-13 viability really puts into perspective how much Disney is still figuring out.
