Demon Slayer: To The Hashira Training Film’s Red Carpet Event In NYC

Between the ending of one season of Demon Slayer and the start of the next, you know there’s going to be a movie. Enter Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba- To the Hashira Training, which had its New York City stop on the red carpet world tour, on February 10th.

The Regal Union Square theater in NYC brought the unique film, actually made up of final episode of Season 3 and the first episode of Season 4, to EVERY inch of its building. Literally, if a screen could be used to display the movie or art from the movie/series, it was doing so.

The Talent

It wasn’t just the movie and art (or just merchandise) that Crunchyroll and Aniplex brought to The Big Apple, it was also Japanese voice actors Natsuki Hanae (Tanjiro Kamado) and Hiro Shimono (Zenitsu Agatsuma). Also, the English VA for Zenitsu, Aleks Le, was there!

There were many questions from the press for the Japanese VAs. Anime News Network asked what they hoped fans would take away from the film, with Natsuki Hanae expressing a hope for the “big screen” experience to bring more emotion to scenes fans may have already seen.

This writer managed to have a complete brain dump (aren’t brain injuries fun) before recovering with a not so well put question on approaching movie performances any differently than TV ones. Both actors expressed how they put maximum effort, or “total concentration” into both. However, Hanae expressed that they do keep in mind that certain episodes can end up in a movie. That last part answered the intended context of the question… Thank The Maker!

Producer Yūma Takahashi was also on hand to answer questions including which character he relates to and would play, to which he replied, with no delay, “of course, Tanjiro.”

Other Guests

There were some big names, besides the previously mentioned ones, in attendance as well. Channing Tatum (21 Jump Street) brought his daughter and wrestler Zelina Vega (WWE), sat a few rows up from yours truly. Also, New York City ambassadors Mikio Mori, the Ambassador and Consul General of Japan, and Kazuya Mori, Deputy Consul General, showed up for some photos and words of encouragement for their countrymen.
