Some big news broke last night as Destin Daniel Cretton swings his way into the Spider-Man 4‘s director chair. Cretton was of course at one point directing Avengers : The Kang Dynasty. However, those plans were changed and in the end the Russos are back to make Doomsday instead. You always got the feeling Marvel wanted Cretton for big movie though and it seems they’ve found him a big one.
According to THR, Cretton is currently in talks to direct Sony’s Spider-Man 4. Now, of course that will not be the title, but you know what we mean. The fourth of the Spider-Man ‘Home’ movies set in the MCU. Whether this fourth movie will keep the Home connection or not remains to be seen. I can’t say it bothers me too much either way as long as it’s a good film.
As per the trade;
‘The filmmaker behind Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is in talks to sign on to direct Spider-Man 4. The move brings an end to speculation of who would spin the web for one of the biggest franchises in Hollywood.’
This does bring in to question what happens next with Shang-Chi 2? We do have some Barside Buzz on that below, but it remains to be seen. I’d be disappointed if Shang-Chi didn’t get a sequel because it was a good film.

On his latest The Insneider newsletter Jeff Sneider says he’s heard the development on Shang-Chi 2 has stalled. Going on to say it’s unclear whether Marvel will push ahead with a sequel.
Let’s hope not, Shang-Chi doesn’t deserve the Eternals fate.
What do you think as Destin Daniel Cretton is set to be the director of Spider-Man 4? Do you think this is a good choice, or do you have reservations? as always, let us know below.
