Currently Disney’s streaming service, Disney+ has given subscribers quite a variety of content. Everything from classic Disney films, to Marvel, Star Wars, and even some fantastic National Geographic features. Now starting this weekend they will also begin exclusively offering a collection of live-action short films by new storytellers. This is called Disney’s Launchpad.

In a previous piece, we covered in detail what Launchpad was all about. Including what to expect from the first six films being released. This initiative takes filmmakers’ experiences in life and now gives them a platform to share their stories through film. This first wave of films on Disney+ is based on the theme of “Discover

One of the two overseers for Launchpad is Mahin Ibrahim. She is the Director of Disney’s Diversity and Inclusion Market. Before Disney, she was previously at Refinery29 in development/production and spent the majority of her career at Google and YouTube. Here she helped run production programs with an emphasis on diversity and inclusion at its flagship studio for YouTube creators.

Also overseeing the project is Phillip Yaw Domfeh. He is the Senior Manager of Disney’s Launchpad shorts incubator. He is also a writer, director, and producer from Los Angeles, California. Previous to Disney, he served as an executive producer of the 2019 AT&T Mentorship Program. He worked there to help mentor underrepresented filmmakers and produce five short films.
