According to a report from both THR, and then Deadline, an Okoye Disney+ spin-off is being developed. News of the Okoye focused spin-off was first revealed by THR. However Deadline have added a little more in their coverage.
Danai Gurira will be returning as Okoye, general of the Dora Milaje, in Ryan Coogler’s upcoming Black Panther: Wakanda Forever as well as reprising the character in an origin spinoff series for Disney+.
However the outlet also mention something else. As far as they know, this Okoye spin-off is NOT the Wakanda series being developed by Ryan Coogler! Check out this statement below.
It would not come as a shock if Gurira also stars in the Wakanda series which Coogler is developing for Disney+. We first told you about the new show when the filmmaker and his Proximity Media signed a five-year overall exclusive TV deal with the studio.
I mean, I’m not going to go against Deadline who have far better sources than most outlets. However, I’m sure I am not going to be the only one with a question here. Whether these two shows could, you know, be the same show? That initial THR report has no further clarity for us here either. The Nation of Wakanda does present a great opportunity for Marvel to world build and tell more stories in that setting. Given the technological prowess of Wakanda, any kind of stories set there will have that superhero feel.
Outside of T’Challa and maybe Shuri, Okoye is the biggest character to come from Black Panther. Therefore, a show about Okoye’s Dora Milaje sounds cool. Following a plot that see’s the Dora out in the wild as well as within Wakanda itself would be fun. What do you think?
Are you excited to hear about an Okoye Disney+ spin-off? Do you believe this is the same show as Ryan Coogler’s Disney+ show or not? Any thoughts below as always. Just what the hell are Marvel going to do with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever?
