Detective Pikachu International Poster Has LOTS Of Pokémon On It

They’re doing it. By golly, they’re doing it. I honestly didn’t know if it would be possible to translate the world of Pokémon into live-action. We’ve all been enjoying this very anime-like video game franchise for decades now, and while we’ve seen them in both CG and hand-drawn form, bringing these guys into the real world is a tall order. In fact, chances are you’ve seen some of those creepy, hyper-realistic takes on these creatures, and the result is never not terrifying.

We’ve now seen a couple great trailers for Pokémon: Detective Pikachu, and as far as I can tell, they’ve managed to capture the magic in live-action form. Rather than go full-cartoony or full-live-action, they are in some odd middle ground, with them making human world a bit more cartoony and giving the anime-like monsters extra bits of texture to bring them just a little closer to reality. And these designs are highlighted in the new poster.

Okay, so I’ll admit, from the outside looking in, it’s kind of a goofy-looking poster. It honestly feels like one of those posters you’d get at Walmart more than an official one. But in the context of what we’ve seen in the trailers so far, I’m on board. These guys look adorable, I love that there are so damn many of them, and I can’t wait to see how they all fit into the greater mystery of the film.
