Detective Pikachu: New Video Shows Off Tons Of New Pokémon Set To ‘What A Wonderful World’

When it was first announced that Detective Pikachu would be the first live-action Pokémon tale audiences would be getting on the big screen, it seemed like a bit of a cop-out to some. We pretty much expected we’d be getting a standard Pokémon trainer story, and when we found out that wouldn’t be the case, there was some concern that it would result in the number of actual Pokémon being limited in the film. Though, if the trailers have been any indication, that won’t be the case — get ready to see more Pokémon than you can shake a stick at.

In a new video released by actor Ryan Reynolds, we are shown a whole multitude of monsters set to the song “What a Wonderful World.” Among the many creatures shown off are Charmanders, Bulbasaurs, Squirtles, Dodrio, Jigglypuff, Psyduck, and countless others that expand way beyond my limited two or three-generation knowledge of these damn things. How many were you able to pick out? Let us know in the comments down below!

Below is the official synopsis for Pokémon: Detective Pikachu:

“The first-ever live-action Pokémon movie, POKÉMON Detective Pikachu stars Ryan Reynolds as the titular character in the first-ever live-action movie based on the iconic face of the global Pokémon brand—one of the world’s most popular, multi-generation entertainment properties and most successful media franchises of all time.

Fans everywhere can now experience Pikachu on the big screen as never before, as a talking detective Pikachu, a Pokémon like no other. The film also showcases a wide array of beloved Pokémon characters, each with its own unique abilities and personality.

The story begins when ace private eye Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son Tim to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry’s former Pokémon partner, Detective Pikachu: a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth who is a puzzlement even to himself. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to communicate with one another, Tim and Pikachu join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery. Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City—a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world—they encounter a diverse cast of Pokémon characters and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe.”

Pokémon: Detective Pikachu hits theaters on May 11, 2019.
