Oh geez… they’re still trying to make Die Hard 6? Well… here we go then…
The Tracking Board reports that Conjuring writers Chad and Carey Hayes have been hired by 20th Century Fox to rewrite the script for the next Die Hard film.
Len Wiseman (Live Free or Die Hard) is back to produce and direct the film, again featuring Bruce Willis as John McClane. But there is a twist you will likely hate, if you didn’t hate this news already; the film is rumored to be an origin story featuring a younger actor portraying McClane as a regular cop in 1970s New York, book-ended in some way by a present day adventure. It is said the film switches back and forth from the present to McClane’s early days. Some close to the project are even referring to it as “Die Hard: Year One,” comparing it to Frank Miller’s Batman: Year One. Sure…
The Hayes brothers are responsible for the two Conjuring films, House of Wax, The Reaping, Whiteout, and an upcoming haunted house movie from Amblin titled The Turning, starring Mackenzie Davis (Halt and Catch Fire, Blade Runner 2049), Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things, IT) and Brooklyn Prince (The Florida Project).
Fun fact, Chad Hayes played a mercenary in what I consider to be Die Hard‘s sibling franchise, Lethal Weapon. Just like how Shane Black wrote Lethal Weapon but acted in Predator (and is now writing and directing The Predator). ’80s bros stick together.
If it must happen, please call it Old Habits Die Hard? Pretty, pretty please. I’ve been sitting on that title for two Die Hard movies (as the franchise should have ended at least one, if not two movies ago).
Are you down for another go-around with John McClane, young and old (Willis)? Or is Willis THE John McClane? Let us know in the comment section below!
