Diego Luna is having a good run right now. Not only is he set to star in STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE, directed by Gareth Edwards and coming out this December, but now he’s in talks to star in a high profile remake. So what’s being remade this time, you ask? The 1990 sci-fi thriller FLATLINERS.
According to The Hollywood Reporter (who are following up on a scoop by The Wrap), the Mexican actor is in talks to star opposite Ellen Page in the film. It’ll be directed by Niels Arden Oplev (the Swedish GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO), and work off of a screenplay by Ben Ripley (SOURCE CODE).
The original film starred Julia Roberts, Kiefer Sutherland, Oliver Platt, Kevin Bacon, and William Baldwin. It centered on a group of medical students who figure out how to visit the afterlife and come back. But, of course, there are always complications when you try to cheat death. That movie was directed by Joel Schumacher.
No word yet on who else is in talks to round out the group of lead characters.
