One thing I find beautiful about films is the opportunity to learn about people’s experiences all around the world. No matter where you are, you can check out a variety of streaming services that offer you a glimpse of what people are going through. You can quickly find out that there are some circumstances that are universal.
One spot where you can find stories like this is on Disney+ under Launchpad. Here we find six short films made by a variety of new filmmakers that were chosen by Disney. They were paired up with veteran Disney filmmakers and had the opportunity to make their films that revolved around the theme of Discovery.

One of these filmmakers is named Hao Zheng. He made the film titled, Dinner is Served. What is interesting about his film is that it’s inspired by the true events of his life. Something personal that he went through. Through Dinner is Served he shows us some of the difficulties a foreign boarding school student could go through.
Here is the synopsis for LAUNCHPAD’s short Dinner is Served:
A Chinese student at an elite U.S. boarding school realizes excellence is not enough when he tries out for a leadership position no international student has ever applied for.
LRM Online’s Emmanuel Gomez talked with Zheng about his film, Dinner is Served. During the conversation, we talked about his real-life experience in boarding school. We also talk about his experience and excitement in being part of Disney’s Launchpad. It was a great conversation that you can check out down below!
Dinner is Served can be seen under Launchpad exclusively on Disney+. While there, be sure to check out the other five amazing short films!
