Without a doubt, last weekend’s debut of Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War left everyone wondering about the future of some characters and films altogether. But it seems there is one director that has a good idea about his next film.
During a Facebook Live Q&A with fans, the director for the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise James Gunn had this to say:
“I hope you guys have seen [Avengers: Infinity War]. I hope you enjoyed it. I hope that you’re excited to see what comes next a year from now if you’ve seen the movie, with Avengers 4, and then two years from today or around this time, when we’ll have Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.”

Gunn has revealed that in just about two years we will have the third installment of Guardians of the Galaxy, which would put the film for a May 1st, 2020 release. A date which by the way has already been reserved for an undisclosed Marvel film. Although this is not a confirmation, it is interesting that Gunn would take to Facebook and make that announcement. But it all seems to make sense given the date as well as the popularity of the Guardians.
Celebrating the success of Avengers: Infinity War, Gunn has spent some time posting old behind the scene images from the first Guardians of the Galaxy film. It is expected to shoot in early 2019. But for now, we still need to wait and see who makes it out of Avengers 4 next May.
