Today Disney took advantage of the fact that most Americans would be in front of their televisions watching the traditional Thanksgiving games. During the Dallas Cowboys vs. Washington Redskins match up on FOX Disney premiered the first teaser trailer for the upcoming highly anticipated “live-action” adaptation of the beloved 1994 film, The Lion King. You can check out the video above!
One of the great advantages that this film has over some of the others is that they were able to bring back James Earl Jones’ powerful voice to once again take on the character of Mufasa. As the trailer shows off the vast African wildlife, he says, “Everything the light touches is our kingdom”. The trailer then goes on to show the iconic scene of Rafiki holding up Simba when he was presented to the kingdom to the sounds of The Circle of Life. Overall it looked beautiful!
As well as the trailer Disney has also released a poster for the film featuring the young Simba putting his paw over what is presumably Mufasa’s paw print, you can also check that out below!
Directing this Disney classic is Jon Favreau who also directed the live-action/CGI hybrid version of another Disney classic The Jungle Book back in 2016. Keep in mind that Disney will have a busy schedule in 2019 with other live-action adaptations like Dumbo and Aladdin.
Jones will be joined by quite a star studded cast that includes Danny Glover as Simba, Beyonce as Nala, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Alfre Woodard as Sarabi, John Oliver as Zazu, John Kani as Rafiki, Florence Kasumba as Shenzi, Eric Andre as Azizi, and Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen as the team of Timon and Pumbaa.
