Disney Theatrical Slate – Marvel Edition

Folks we have a Disney theatrical slate update from yesterday, and we're breaking it down, this is the Marvel Edition.

Folks we have a Disney theatrical slate update from yesterday, and we’re breaking it down, this is the Marvel Edition. You can find the Star Wars edition posted alongside this article on the front page, plus some already published dates outside of the big two.

However here we will be focussing on the MCU dates announced. Especially how one of them doesn’t make any sense, and in fact I don’t think will release on that date. Check out the full slate for the next few years below on a social media post from Erik Davis.

We know there is only one Marvel movie coming this year and we still don’t have a title for Deadpool 3. However, according to this slate we should be getting four MCU films in 2025.

First up on 2/14/25 is Captain America: Brave New World. Originally supposed to release in 2024 but delayed due to the strikes and some sizeable reshoots happening now. We then have Fantastic Four due on May 2nd, 2025. We’ll see, I could see this movie and Thunderbolts swapping places eventually. Thunderbolts is due to start filming in March and we don’t know 100% but it looks like Fantastic Four won’t begin till after this, though sometime this year.

Next up is Thunderbolts (obviously) releasing on 7/25/25 and then the final MCU movie of that year is Blade on 11/7/25. I would not be at all surprised to see this shift and there only be three movies from Marvel in 2025 with Blade being the one to slip into 26′. However for now, this is all official.

It’s once we get into 2026 that I raise my eyebrows slightly. We have an untitled Marvel movie on 2/13/26 and your guess is as good as mine. However, it’s Avengers: The Kang Dynasty still being listed as 5/1/26. I just can’t see an Avengers movie releasing in the same month as The Mandalorian and Grogu. Surely that hurts the Star Wars movie’s chances?

Given I do think Mando and Grogu releases on that date, I can’t see Avengers being left there. We also have heard many rumors, some from excellent sources and trades that say this movie won’t be titled The Kang Dynasty. Instead internally it is simply being referred to as Avengers 5 currently.

Another reason I have a feeling we will eventually get a new slate for Marvel is This official Disney press pack. This still lists Daredevil: Born Again as a show arriving on Disney+ this year. I doubt anyone actually expects that to happen at this point, though it could maybe manage the tail end of this year.

Bob Iger on Marvel

We also have some comments from Bob Iger at yesterdays Disney earnings call. You can listen for yourself Here. However, if you just want to know what was said about Marvel specifically I got you covered.

Essentially Iger once again said the focus will be on quality not quantity. That means a reduced output and only making movies that feature popular characters. How they will definite who is popular or not and when to introduce new people who knows?? What I think we could all point to is why we haven’t seen more from the likes of Shang-Chi or Hulk. Why there’s been so many brand new heroes introduced but less sequels to those who were popular?

There’s two more untitled Marvel movies in 2026 and then Secret Wars still earmarked for 5/7/27. Again, we shall see if that sticks or not.

What do you think of this new Disney Theatrical slate as it relates to Marvel movies? What about Iger’s comments? As always, leave any thoughts below.
