OH… MY… MAKER… You have got to be kidding me! Apparently, the House of Mouse is not happy with the direction Star Wars has been going since the divisive The Last Jedi hit in 2017. Things got even worse when Solo was released and failed to recoup its budget. Add that to the worst year in toys sales in forever and you have one pissed off Disney CEO in Bob Iger. Sources say Iger threatened LucasFilm head Kathleen Kennedy, who recently signed a contract through 2020, and her time may be shortened. If Disney is willing to part ways with money to get rid of her, that’s saying something. The same sources said that Iger talked with J.J. Abrams about Episode IX to see what kind of changes can be made to ensure this movie “meets the fans expectations.” That’s a big deal if true. There’s only eight months or so left to affect changes before this movie has to be shipped to theaters.
However, that wasn’t the biggest news. Bob Iger has hired a film consultant to look at REBOOTING the Star Wars universe. The consultant, April O’Neil, is said to ” not deal with fools and fires people on day one.” This is something that never crossed my mind as a possibility. To be fair, I ignore the Prequel Trilogy myself, but I don’t want it rebooted! Can you imagine what this will be like? Well, we have an idea thanks to a report from Channel 6 News, which has an interview between Iger and O’Neil:

Iger: “We can’t afford for this franchise to be hated. There’s too much money to be lost. What do you think we should do?”
O’Neil: “People like dark and gritty. They really like grounded stories with relatable and diverse characters. I’m thinking we should start on Earth next time. We should have this story take place in our galaxy.”
Iger: “Yeah, yeah. I like that, but what about the ‘a long time ago’ tag, people love that”
O’Niel: “We can keep it. We can start off with an alien ship visiting earth in the… I don’t know… 1600s.”
