Disney’s Aladdin Makes $7M On Thursday Previews

Mena Massoud Talks Ezra Bridger Casting Rumors

Aladdin looks to be off to a solid start. According to Deadline, the film has already taken in $7 million on Thursday preview numbers alone. These aren’t exactly world-altering figures, by any means — Beauty and the Beast took in $16.3 million back in 2017 — but it’s a solid step up from the disappointing $2.6 million Dumbo took in early this year its opening Thursday. That movie went on to make $46 million its opening weekend and $347 million worldwide so far.

As of this writing, Aladdin is expected to make between $73 million and $85 million over the course of the three-day weekend. Again, it’s not breaking any records (Beauty and the Beast broke all those), but considering where most audiences stood when that first trailer hit, it’s had quite the recovery.

So far, the reception from critics has been relatively split, with it sitting at 60% as of this writing. What I’m interested to see is how audiences will feel about this. While I have yet to see the movie myself, the general feeling I’m getting is that’s it’s the kind of film Disney fans will take to very well. If that’s the case, we may see a film with a respectable (but not amazing) opening that manages to keep its numbers up as the weeks go on.
