Sci-fi film District 9 is the film that put Neil Blomkamp as one of Hollywood’s most desired directors. It also launched the career of South African actor Sharlto Copley into stardom.
Since that film back in 2009, there have been plenty of conversations about having a sequel and hopefully resolving the future of Wikus Van De Merwe.
Alas, after almost fifteen years, it’s almost safe to say that it won’t happen.
In a transcribed interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the trade publication asked the director of Gran Turismo for an update for this anticipated sequel.
He responded briefly, “I don’t know if it’s getting made or not. I don’t know if I even want to make that right now, but at some point down the line, it’ll probably get made.”
Also, THR asked if the sequel would land with Sony Pictures, the distributor for Gran Turismo.
“Yeah, they would be tied to it,” reaffirmed Blomkamp.
This is still in line with previous interviews from Blomkamp, saying it will eventually happen. Years ago, he even assured this outlet in an interview that it would someday happen.

District 9 follows a government agent exposed to alien biotechnology that forced him to reside with the extraterrestrials in the slums.
Nonetheless, Blomkamp is enjoying doing experimental short films with Oats Studios. He places these short films with tons of visual effects to garner responses from the public for his future films. You can check out these short films on Oat Studios YouTube channel.
Check out Blomkamp’s Gran Turismo, now showing in theaters. He uses certain visual effects technology that makes a race car driving experience seem out of the PlayStation video game.
