Doctor Strange 2: Benedict Wong Thinks Film ‘May Be Happening’ Next Year | DPCC 2019

For the longest time, Marvel Studios had pretty much everything they had right on front street. We had years and years where we knew exactly when each movie would come out, so keeping track of the development and casting of each project was generally pretty easy, as it all happened in a pretty predictable cycle. But, with Avengers: Endgame now done, and Phase 3 coming to a close, their future is a big, fat question mark.

Sure, we know they have a few projects that are underway, including Black Widow, The Eternals, and Shang-Chi, but as far as knowing which film we can slide in where…that’s still elusive. However, one project we know is coming at some point is Doctor Strange 2. Earlier this year, we found out that C. Robert Cargill may return for the sequel, but things have been fairly silent since then. But when will it hit production?

One of the film’s stars, Benedict Wong, recently appeared at Denver Pop Culture Con, and when asked about the sequel, said:

“I know they’ve now got a writer on board who I met at the Endgame premiere. So I think that may be happening some time next year.”

He didn’t clarify what he means by “happening.” Did he mean “happening” as in released or “happening” as in production? I took it to mean as production, given that he’s an actor who has a schedule to juggle, so let’s take it as such.

Though, regardless of his intention, this is by no means a confirmation. In the grand scheme of things, actors are the last ones to know about anything regarding their big movies (unless they have a bigger hand in it), but at least we know the project seems to be on his radar. With 2019 inching toward the latter half, it seems to be more and more likely that production next year is more likely and a 2021 release date inevitable.

That being said, if they really hustle, they could still get it out for that November 5, 2020 release date. They’d just have to rush it out quickly.

What do you think? Is November of next year a possibility, especially since that’s around the time the first one came out in 2016? Let us know your thoughts down below!
