Doom Patrol: HBO Max Reveals Release Date For Season 2 Of The Quirky DC Series

Doom Patrol is headed to HBO Max, folks!

We have recently talked about the concerns regarding the DC Universe streaming app. It seems that as days go by, they are slowly losing a lot of their exclusive content. Especially now with the arrival of HBO Max at the end of the month. One of the first signs of trouble was HBO Max’s announcement trailer that showcased DC Universe’s series Doom Patrol. Speaking of which today we got the announcement of the date of the second season, not from DC Universe but HBO Max’s second wave of Max Originals.

According to the press release the second season of Doom Patrol via CBR will kick off on Thursday, June 25th. The information also does mention that the episodes will also be dropping simultaneously on the DC Universe. Here is the synopsis provided:

DC’s strangest group of heroes — Cliff Steele aka Robotman (Brendan Fraser), Larry Trainor aka Negative Man (Matt Bomer), Rita Farr aka Elasti-Woman (April Bowlby), Jane aka Crazy Jane (Diane Guerrero), and Victor Stone aka Cyborg (Joivan Wade) — are back again to save the world. That is, if they can find a way to grow up…both figuratively and literally. Following the defeat of Mr. Nobody, the members of the Doom Patrol now find themselves mini-sized and stranded on Cliff’s toy race car track. Here they begin to deal with their feelings of betrayal by Niles Caulder aka The Chief (Timothy Dalton), while confronting their own personal baggage. And as each member faces the challenge of growing beyond their own past traumatic experiences, they must come together to embrace and protect the newest member of the family: Dorothy Spinner (Abigail Shapiro), Niles’ daughter, whose powers remain a mysterious but real threat to bringing on the end of the world.

Doom Patrol is produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television with Jeremy Carver, Geoff Johns, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Chris Dingess serving as executive producers. With episodes debuting simultaneously on DC UNIVERSE, the series is based on characters created for DC by Arnold Drake, Bob Haney and Bruno Premiani.

The first season of Doom Patrol was very well done! In case you haven’t seen it, I would recommend giving DC Universe a shot for a month to check it out. For me, the highlight of the series is Brendan Fraser as Cliff Steele aka Robotman. While your there also there are a few other series that are worth your time especially the animated Harley Quinn and the third season of Young Justice: Outsiders. As for the live-action original series besides Doom Patrol, you can’t go wrong with Swamp Thing. Titans has it’s moments but is very inconsistent.

I do understand the fact that right now for WarnerMedia it’s vital to showcase HBO Max with as much content as possible. Let’s be honest, DC Universe isn’t gaining many new subscribers anyway. So if your WarnerMedia, why not use a series that did well to keep a diverse library of content for people to watch.
