Every young musician aspires to live their career touring and making music. For the two brothers, the launch of their musical career wasn’t realized nearly 30 years after a record collector discovered their album in a store. The Emerson family’s story and music are told on screen in Dreamin’ Wild.
The film has an all-star cast with Casey Affleck, Zooey Deschanel, Noah Jupe, Jack Dylan Glazer, Beau Bridges, Walton Goggins, and Chris Messina. Bill Pohlad wrote and directed the film.
Here is the full synopsis:
Dreamin’ Wild, the true story of love and redemption, is about what happened to singer/songwriter Donnie Emerson and his family when the album he and his brother recorded as teens was rediscovered after thirty years of obscurity and was suddenly hailed by music critics as a lost masterpiece. While the album’s rediscovery brings hopes of second chances, it also brings long-buried emotions as Donnie, his wife Nancy, brother Joe, and father Don Sr. come to terms with the past and their newly found fame.

LRM Online’s Gig Patta spoke with musicians Donnie Emerson and Nancy Emerson (portrayed by Casey Affleck and Zooey Deschanel in the film). We talked about their lives, their music, and their collaboration with the film.
Donnie Emerson self-released the first album with his brother titled “Dreamin’ Wild” in 1979. Afterward, Donnie launched his solo career with two more albums titled “Can I See You” and “Whatever It Takes.” His career rejuvenated in 2008 after record collector Jack Fleischer discovered “Dreamin’ Wild” at an antique shop. In October 2012, the brothers performed at a Light in the Attic anniversary concert in Seattle. The brothers and Donnie’s wife, Nancy, continued to write and make music to this date.
Dreamin’ Wild is in theaters tomorrow, August 4.
