Dwayne Johnson (you know, ‘The Rock’), maybe getting a welcome to the jungle this December in Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle, but he will quickly be returning for Disney’s unrelated film, Jungle Cruise, based on the popular theme park’s classic ride.
Entertainment Weekly had a chat with Johnson about Jumanji, also getting the actor to spill a few details on Jungle Cruise. In a surprise to no one, Johnson revealed that he stars as the captain of a boat, and the boat is on the Amazon River.
Johnson went on to compare the film to another franchise that often sometimes involves jungles… and boats:
“[It’s] full on adventure. Think Indiana Jones — those kinds of adventures. I’m very, very excited about it.”
A promising idea, but again, if I had a nickle for every time someone compared their adventure film to Indiana Jones, I’d have a crap ton of nickles.
Johnson also shared his thoughts on working with Disney on such a high profile project:
“This is where I really started to understand the power of Disney, just in terms of the deep dives that they do with their projects — with all of their projects. Because obviously they’re a studio and publicly traded, but specifically with projects like this where it’s based off a ride and based off an beloved attraction, like Pirates [of the Caribbean], so, so much goes into the work. And it’s so exciting.”
Jungle Cruise does not yet have a release date.
What do you think about Johnson comparing his new movie to Indiana Jones? Does it have you jazzed? Or have you, like me, heard this unfulfilled promise too many times in the past? Let us know in the comment section below!
