Ellen Page has joined the Netflix original series Umbrella Academy, Deadline reports. The series is based on the graphic novel series of the same name from writer Gerard Way and illustrator Gabriel Bá.
The synopsis for the comic series is as follows:
“In an inexplicable worldwide event, forty-seven extraordinary children were spontaneously born to women who’d previously shown no signs of pregnancy. Millionaire inventor Reginald Hargreeves adopted seven of the children; when asked why, his only explanation was, ‘To save the world.’
“These seven children form the Umbrella Academy, a dysfunctional family of superheroes with bizarre powers. Their first adventure at the age of ten pits them against an erratic and deadly Eiffel Tower, piloted by the fearsome zombie-robot Gustave Eiffel. Nearly a decade later, the team disbands, but when Hargreeves unexpectedly dies, these disgruntled siblings reunite just in time to save the world once again.”
Page is set to take on the character Vanya Hargreeves, also known as The White Violin. Essentially, she’s a character who has been told her whole life she has no abilities. It’s only later that she discovers she was the most powerful of Hargreeves’ adopted children, and that her powers were being suppressed.
It’ll be interesting to see how Netflix will tackle this adaptation, but Page seems like a solid choice for this role. What do you think? Let us know down below!
