Billy Bob Thornton is back with a new leading role in Landman. In the new Taylor Sheridan gem we are introduced to “Tommy.” Who gives us a taste of what a landman is and does in the wild Texas.
The Synopsis
Set in the proverbial boomtowns of West Texas, LANDMAN is a modern-day tale of fortune-seeking in the world of oil rigs. Based on the notable 11-part podcast “Boomtown” from Imperative Entertainment and Texas Monthly, the series is an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so big, it’s reshaping our climate, our economy and our geopolitics.
The native from Hot Springs, Arkansas Billy Bob Thornton first shot in entertainment took place in 1970 and has four recorded albums, 2001 Private Radio, 2003 The Edge of the World, 2005 Hobo and 2007 Beautiful Door. Today he is known as a filmmaker, singer, actor and songwriter. While juggling music he has maintained busy filming projects like A Simple Plan, Bandits, The Man Who Wasn’t There, Prime Videos Goliath and The Bad Santa franchise. In 1997 Thornton won an Oscar for Best Writing for Sling Blade. For the same film he received a nomination as Best Actor for his own leading role. Next month is the release of his upcoming film, Standing on the Shoulders of Kitties.

I had the pleasure of having a sit-down interview with Billy Bob Thornton the past Monday during the Landman press day. Thornton expressed why his character “Tommy” considers himself lucky and why he can relate to it in real life. In addition to getting to add a little bit of his own touch while going based on the script written by Taylor Sheridan and what he hopes people take away from watching the series.
