Emer Reynolds directs the warm, joy-filled Irish film Joyride. Starring Olivia Colman, Lochlann O’Mearáin and new actor Charlie Reid.
The Synopsis
Fleeing from his father, Irish 12-year-old Mully (Charlie Reid) steals a taxi and is shocked to find a woman, Joy (Olivia Colman, “The Favourite”), in the back seat with a baby. Joy has decided to give her child away to a friend, and Mully needs to get some distance from his debt-ridden dad (Lochlann O’Mearáin, “Outlander”), who’s after the cash Mully has with him. And so two lovable rogues, a complicated middle aged mother and a troubled adolescent, go on a journey across Ireland, gradually finding the friendship, love and learning they never knew they needed in each other.
For the past two decades, Emer Reynolds has been working between editing, features, television, documentaries and directing. Her debut feature was with the documentary Here Was Cuba and received International recognition. The Farthest won an Emmy for Outstanding Science And Technology Documentary. Other known projects are I Went Down, Patrick’s Day and Song For While I’m Away among others.
