Esposito Talks Inspiration For Moff Gideon In The Mandalorian

Esposito Wants Professor X Role After Marvel Talks

Check out a new video featuring Giancarlo Esposito talking about the inspiration for Moff Gideon. Esposito has played the menacing villain since the close of The Mandalorian Season 1. Season 2 saw Gideon once again get a hold of Grogu, forcing Mando to mount a rescue. As the season closed in dramatic fashion Gideon is now a prisoner and Grogu has left with Master Skywalker.

Here is what Moff Gideon himself had to sayin the video below.

“I’ve been a very big fan of the early Star Wars movies and the world in which they exist,” Esposito explained. “I always was fascinated by Darth Vader. I thought that inside that very, very hard, coarse exterior could be a human being that had the ability to bring some light to our space odyssey in our galaxy.” He continued, “I was strongly affected by Peter Cushing who also played a Moff many, many years ago. And tried to do some research, because I knew the fans knew a whole lot more than I did about Star Wars.”

The Mandalorian Moff Gideon

This may be a matter of opinion, but I think Esposito is great in anything he does. Definitely one of my favorite actors in Hollywood and I look forward to seeing more of Moff Gideon. It was surprising Gideon was not featured more often in The Mandalorian Season 2. I look forward to Gideon, and his plans being explored further in Season 3 or beyond. Are Grand Admiral Thrawn and Gideon connected to one another? Could they both be setting up things for what will eventually become the First Order and the cloning technology used to create Snoke?

That all remains to be seen? However, with Gideon very much alive, and not much of his plans revealed, my bet is there’s more to come. Far as we know, Esposito will be back in The Mandalorian Season 3. Until then let us know what you think of Esposito, his inspiration for Gideon and anything related to The Mandalorian.
