According to trade Variety, Eternals 2 is not moving forward at Marvel. It does in fact seem like the rumors were true. For those that don’t follow the Barside Buzz articles we’ve been hearing that Eternals 2 was dead for quite some time. Some leakers have hinted the story could continue elsewhere, other mediums, but not a movie.
However, it is more official now as reported by Variety as part of their coverage of a GQ interview with Game of Thrones star Kit Harington. Harington of course played Dane Whitman (Black Knight) in Eternals and the post credit scene set him up to appear in Blade. So what happens next?
‘While “Eternals” ended with a note suggesting the characters would return in a sequel, the Chloe Zhao-directed tentpole was a box office disappointment with $402 million worldwide, well below Marvel’s standards. Marvel is reportedly not developing a sequel. Meanwhile, the Mahershala Ali-starring “Blade” movie that Harington’s Black Knight was being teed up for has gone through multiple overhauls. It’s unclear what the future holds for Harington at Marvel.’

As for what Harington had to say about his future in the MCU, or why he took the role in the first place?
“I’m not gonna pretend I took that [role] because it was different and interesting. If Marvel calls, you gotta do it.”
I guess as Harington has said in the past, he awaits a call to return. It seems unlikely that will now be in Blade, but who knows for sure?
I doubt anyone cares too much that Eternals 2 isn’t happening. It may make sense for a few characters to return eventually from that film. However I doubt any of them are going to play much of a part in the upcoming Avengers movies. I also say this as one of the few Marvel fans I know who kinda liked Eternals. Yet, even I’m not bothered it won’t get a sequel.
