Eternals Trailer Gets A Cold Reception From Some Fans

Yesterday saw the first proper Eternals trailer arrive. Whilst it was only a teaser trailer for Eternals, the hype I think had been building due to all the movie’s various delays. Add to that all the rumored Oscar buzz that’s been flying about and expectations were high. Problem is, after the teaser trailer hit, fans pretty much gave it the cold shoulder. On our own comments section I don’t think there was one comment not bashing on this teaser. Checking online chat forums and reading comments on social media, I am generally seeing the same reaction. Here is that Eternals trailer again for you.

Now many fans are also saying, ‘hey let’s slow down here, it was just a teaser’. I guess that’s where I fall for now, I can admit the trailer wasn’t exactly exciting. Truthfully though, I kinda liked it. If Eternals is a great movie, I won’t care that the first teaser was a little dull. However, there are also some fans saying they’ll skip this one at theatres and wait for Disney+. Of course, that’s not something Marvel Studios or Disney will wish to hear. However, there is still plenty of time for Marvel to up the stakes trailer wise between here and November. Perhaps the full trailer will excite the fans a little more?

One narrative I have seen being picked up by a lot of fans is the Endgame angle. I.e. the tagline we see in that trailer is, “we have never interfered….until now”. As one fan put it and many agreed, we could be hearing a lot of that from any new heroes in the MCU. Fans seem to be dissing on the Eternals simply because they did not get involved in the fight against Thanos.

Let’s just hold up a minute here! Are we fans really going to fall out with made up heroes because they didn’t take part in an event they hadn’t even been developed for yet? The idea of fans annoyed that the Eternals, and in the future the X-Men and Fantastic Four just chose not to aid the Avengers against Thanos, is frankly mental. You all know why there was no X-Men and Fantastic Four in Endgame and it has nothing to do with writing or lack of planning on Marvel’s part.

Eternals, and whoever else comes next in the MCU shouldn’t have to be judged by their actions in a movie they had no business being in. Let’s just remember that these are still escapist movies at the end of the day made to entertain us. However, it would be wrong for me to say that was the main criticisms of this new Eternals trailer. I only take issue with the Endgame reasoning for people not liking Eternals characters. So will Eternals be Marvel’s first big bomb as some are now suggesting? I wouldn’t bet on it. By this stage of Guardians of the Galaxy fans were still predicting it would be a disaster and look how that turned out. Personally I’ll be waiting till November to decide what I think of Eternals.

What about you, was anyone in love with that Eternals trailer? If you didn’t care for it, what was the issue you had? And finally is there anyone out there who agrees to the crazy Endgame rules I mentioned above? Leave any thoughts below as always.
