Evans Offers Update On His Marvel Contract, Talks Holland’s Amazing Spider-Man Screen Test

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR is almost upon us and, by most accounts, it’s going to be a phenomenal film. The early reviews are sensational and the box office tracking seems to indicate another massive success is on the way for Marvel Studios. The film’s star, Chris Evans, is making the rounds promoting the film. In a chat with Collider, he spoke a bit about his future with Marvel, and even touched on getting to participate in Tom Holland’s screen test for the role of Spider-Man, who makes his MCU debut in CIVIL WAR.

On the subject of his contract status:

“There’s no re-upping yet. It is so funny thinking about how fast time has moved. We started thisin 2010, and six years is gone in the blink of an eye. In the beginning it was so terrifying, and now you’re almost scared… I’m scared to walk away. I’m scared to not have one of these coming. For the past six years, there’s always been ‘next year, we start on that one,’ and it’s been wonderful. Especially because the movies are so good. When you make good movies, who wants to stop doing that? So, I don’t know. We’ll see.

“I know in the comic books the shield gets passed off. And what you do know, more than anything else in this process and meeting fans and experiencing these junkets and people who love the character, the character is bigger than you. And whatever the character needs, whatever Marvel needs for that arc, I’m willing to do. So if that is me passing it off, you pass it off. But if they want to make more, I’m ready.”

He also shared a cute little story about Tom Holland’s screen test for Spider-Man. He says Holland was the final Spidey candidate he read with, and that the actor surprised him and directors Joe and Anthony Russo by taking the stage directions in the script literally and actually flipping into the scene!

“This kid just absolutely Spider-Man-ed into the scene and landed in the most superhero pose and nailed the scene. It really just felt like, ‘Wow! This is Spider-Man.'”

Are you hoping to see more of Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America? Can’t wait to see Holland’s turn as Peter Parker/Spider-Man? Sound off below!

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR arrives on May 6.
