This past week at San Diego Comic-Con we finally got out first look at Young Justice: Outsiders. The third season of the series that many fans have been demanding since the end of the second season is finally back. We will once again be following the adventures of heroes like Nightwing, Superboy, Artemis, Aquaman and many more of DC Comic’s long list of young heroes. Check out the trailer above!
As you can see a lot had happened since we had last seen our heroes. They had stopped the Reach from completing their objective but at a very high price, the life of Kid Flash a.k.a Wally West. With this victory, the Justice League invited the young heroes to join them in the Watchtower, which they refused.
It is unknown how far from the events of the second season the third season picks up, but it is clear that the effects of the loss of their teammate, is still affecting some of the characters. The heroes are reunited to combat the rise of metahuman trafficking, which has been caused by an intergalactic arms race to obtain people with powers and abilities.
LRM had the opportunity to talk with Brandon Vietti producer on the series, who gave us insight on what we can expect from this season now that it will be available on DC Universe instead of Cartoon Network.
“Because we are on a streaming service, we are not on Cartoon Network, we don’t have Cartoon Network standards and practices department sort of saying what we can and can’t do, that has freed us up.” Said Vietti, “This season is more mature, it’s a little darker”
Vietti also talked about how they took advantage of the fact that they know that viewers would be able to go back and re-watch episodes on the DC Universe streaming service which allowed them to “do these deep cut and these deep dives into the content in a way that I don’t think we were always able to do in the past”, continued Vietti. But he also went on to reassure us that the basic storytelling has not changed at all.
I look forward to seeing this third season especially now that they have a little more freedom to be a bit darker. I am very curious to see how our young heroes continue to grow and mature throughout the season and also what happens with their relationships with the Justice League, do they become closer or grow farther apart.
