Expect Character Growth In Marvel Netflix Series DEFENDERS To Carry Over To DAREDEVIL Season 3

Season 2 of Daredevil may be seen as something of a low point for the character — and I’m not talking about the quality of the show, but rather the general morale of Matt Murdock. This was a man who had learned to take matters into his own hands at a young age, but by Season 2, between the drama with the Punisher and the mayhem that Elektra brought to him, he had reached the point where it was no longer possible for him to do so. No longer can he be the lone ranger he’s had to be up to that point.

With that in mind, it’s likely he’ll be joining the Defenders with a heavy dose of reticence. But in order for him to function well in the team dynamic, he’ll have to go through a serious mental shift.

So what does this mean for Season 3 of Daredevil? Will the inevitable character growth he’ll have to face in Defenders carry over into that? Speaking at a Wizard World Chicago panel, actor Charlie Cox, who play Matt Murdock in the show, said:

“He can’t do all this alone. And that’s to say maybe some teamwork – He’s actually going to relinquish [some responsibility]. So whatever lessons he learns in The Defenders will then play into I think season three.”

This really isn’t anything new or special. Given the increasingly serialized nature of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole, it was a given that the characters would undergo some serious character arcs, as is done in any TV show. Just because their presence is spread across several shows doesn’t change that fact that he’s undergoing changes.

I’m looking forward to this next season of the show. As much as I understood where Matt was coming with his general attitude, it’s about time he moved past that and allow himself not to constantly be the martyr. But, of course, the trouble with that is that once a character begins to trust people, it may put him in a position where he trusts too many people with his identity. Another character who underwent a similar growth was Arrow‘s Oliver Queen. Once he began trusting people, the show took a significant turn for the worst.

What do you think about this? Will it be okay for Daredevil Season 3 if Matt Murdock is able to relinquish some of his responsibilities as a defender of Hell’s Kitchen? Let us know your thoughts down below!
