If you’re one of the many gamers out there who enjoyed the SNES classic JRPG game Chrono Trigger back in the ’90s, there’s a good chance you’ve also been eagerly awaiting the day it’s confirmed that a true sequel would eventually rear its head. Sure, there was the critically-acclaimed Chrono Cross that hit the PS1, and while that was a solid game, it felt nothing like its predecessor.
For years, gamers have been hoping to see a game with a similar battle system, a time-travel narrative, and perhaps most importantly, artwork that at least resembles the work done by Chrono Trigger (and Dragon Ball) artist Akira Toriyama.
Well, fans, I’m pleased to say that one fan out there has taken on the duty themselves to make one for us. Okay, I may have overstated that. They didn’t actually make a game, but rather made a trailer for a fake game that could be seen as the successor to Chrono Trigger.
The “game” in question is Chrono Break, and you may recognize the name, because back in the early 2000s, Squaresoft trademarked the name, and that only stoked the fires even greater for a potential sequel…that never came. For now, this will hold us over just fine.
