Fast & Furious 9 Begins Production, Vin Diesel Shares Video

The Fast & Furious franchise is a bit of a hotbed of internal drama. On one end we have the drama between Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson, who apparently can’t stand to work with each other anymore. You have complaints from Michelle Rodriguez of the female characters having too little to do in the films. You have Tyrese Gibson’s own personal issues fogging things up. And finally, you have the lawsuit between the studio and former producer.

Phew! That’s a whole lotta drama. But I guess even the best families have some drama, right? Anyway, The Rock and Jason Statham are off on their own Hobbs & Shaw island, with their film set to hit theaters this August, but don’t let that fool you into thinking the mainline franchise isn’t sticking around.

Diesel himself took to Instagram to celebrate the completion of their first day yesterday, and at his side was franchise vet Rodriguez herself, confirming her involvement in spite of previous complaints.

“Can you believe it, Letty? Can you believe it?” Diesel said to the camera.

“Nine,” Rodriguez added. “Nine!”

Diesel continued:

“We just completed our first day. It feels like a miracle. One hard-earned but it feels like…we’re just so grateful. We’re grateful to you, Universal. We’re grateful for our whole team. The incredible crew. The incredible cast, and most importantly, we’re so grateful to you, the world, that has adopted this franchise, and can you believe it? That’s so awesome. We’re so blessed and we love you so much.”

There were no other details given surrounding the film, and the background itself didn’t reveal much of anything other than a hardworking crew set at the base of a green hill. To the right of Diesel’s head, we see what could be a garage, and given Diesel and Rodriguez’s getup, I’m assuming they’ll be working on some vehicles in this backcountry garage.

Longtime franchise helmer Justin Lin is returning for this and the tenth entry in the franchise. Will you be coming back as well? Do you think this franchise will have what it takes to survive with Hobbs and Shaw gone? Let us know your thoughts down below!
