Feige Confirms Eternals Film In Development At Marvel Studios

This is a very exciting week for Marvel Studios as it prepares to debut the highly anticipated Avengers: Infinity War. While promoting the film president of Marvel Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige has been busy answering a lot of questions not only about this next blockbuster, but what comes next.

Talking with TheWrap, Feige revealed that Marvel Studios is developing a film based on the Marvel characters called the Eternals, they are featured in a comic book series about an evolutionary offshoot of humanity. They were created by the legendary Jack Kirby in 1976. In the comics they were created by the cosmic entities known as Celestials. They have the ability to manipulate limited quantities of cosmic energy along with other superhuman traits.

He said that, “‘Eternals’ is one of many many many things that we are actively beginning to have creative discussions about to see if we believe in them enough to put them on a slate.” He also said that they have already started working on the films that are post phase 3.

But as exciting as that notion could be, he also emphasized that they are still mainly focused on the current MCU phase. With most of the studio’s efforts going towards Avengers: Infinity War, Ant Man and The Wasp, Captain Marvel and the untitled Avengers film. Also he added that “And we start shooting ‘Spider Man’ in July.”

He went on to say that, “Those are the five things that are taking up 90 percent of our time. But there’s 10 percent we’re starting to go, ‘What’s going to be best?’ And some of that is you can take cues from everything we’ve done in the 22 movies before those — which is sequels to existing characters, new interpretation of existing characters and trying whole new swings with stuff that most people never heard of. So there are writers coming in on lots of different projects and lots of different ideas. And you’ll only start to hear more and more of it.”

It sounds like Marvel Studios is going to keep chugging along, not at all worrying about the Marvel movie fatigue that James Cameron was hoping for. What are your thoughts on a Eternals film? Or do you think they should focus their time on another character or group? Let us know in the comment section below!

Marvel Studio’s Avengers: Infinity War opens this Friday, April 26 in theaters everywhere.
