The weight of a title comes with a high price and we get to see it in the new Max documentary, The Golden Boy. Under the direction of the filmmaker Fernando Villena we learn that of Oscar de la Hoya’s ten world titles the massive one that wasn’t earned with a fight is the one of the “Golden Boy.”
The Synopsis
Oscar De La Hoya was an Olympic boxing gold medalist and a multi-world title-winning professional boxer. Nicknamed “The Golden Boy,” De La Hoya, with his good looks and heartfelt story of winning Olympic gold for his dying mother, rocketed to national prominence both in and outside the ring. Yet, all was not what it appeared to be behind that polished facade.
The Ecuadorian filmmaker Fernando Villena is an editor and director. Villena is known for projects like the thriller Gamer with Gerard Butler, Jonah Hex and The Darkest Hour. Besides the action films he has worked on the story telling documentaries like Giving Voice, The Alpinist and Dear Rider: The Jake Burton Story.
