Fifth Installment of Cult Movie Franchise Attack of the Killer Tomatoes: Organic Intelligence to Unveil at SDCC 2026

Attack of the Killer Tomatoes: Organic Intelligence

Cult horror movie Attack of the Killer Tomatoes launched the careers of George Clooney into stardom and writer Steve Peace into politics over four decades with its birth in San Diego.

Four decades later, the franchise returns home to San Diego with a panel to launch its fifth installment, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes: Organic Intelligence.

The panel takes place at 7:15 p.m. on Friday, July 24, in room 6A at the San Diego Convention Center.

The Attack of the Killer Tomatoes original creator, Costa Dillon, will be joined by Attack of the Killer Tomatoes: Organic Intelligence producer Michael Polis (Yo Gabba Gabba!) and director David Ferino. The cast of the new film will also be on stage, including Dan Bakkedahl (Veep), Myrna Velasco (Star Wars Resistance), Zachary Roozen (Romeo and Juliet Killers), Samantha Bailey (Just Add Magic), and Noor Razooky (The Old Man).

The panel will debut its first official trailer, feature exclusive footage, include an audience Q&A, and feature a special appearance by Norman the Killer Tomato.

Here is the official synopsis:

In Attack of the Killer Tomatoes: Organic Intelligence, a young biotech prodigy develops a revolutionary genetically engineered vegetable designed to solve humanity’s problems. But when the experiment spirals out of control, it unleashes a new generation of killer tomatoes, setting the stage for another outrageous chapter in the long-running franchise.

Additional cast members in the film include David Koechner (Anchorman), Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight), Catherine Corcoran (Terrifier), and John Astin (The Addams Family), who returns as Professor Gangreen.

Attack of the Killer Tomatoes started in San Diego in 1978, and now it’s coming home,” said co-writer and producer Steve Peace of the original 1978 film. “We made this one in the city that created it, and there’s no better stage for its return than the biggest pop culture weekend of the year.”

In addition, at the Atomic Toybox Booth (Booth #3917) in the exhibit hall, there will be merchandise from Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, including posters, tomato plushies, clothing, skateboards, and more.

Attack of the Killer Tomatoes: Organic Intelligence will be in select theaters in August, then opening wide and be available on VOD in September.
