Fifty Shades of Grey is going to be the most sexual film to hit mainstream audiences in over 10 years, according to a new study. This won’t come as a shock to anyone who has read the books, but some folks thought that the big screen adaptation may transform the title into more of a love story than an erotic thriller in order to appeal to a wider audience. Not so, according to new reports which claim that a 5th of the film’s running time will be devoted to sex scenes.

Yahoo is reporting that Fifty Shades of Grey contains 12 sex scenes in all, totaling 20 minutes of screen time devoted to Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson bumping uglies.

The film’s stars, though, are doing their best to downplay the raunchiness, though. In recent interviews, they’ve gone out of their way to say the intent was simply to create a good movie, and build anticipation as opposed to graphically display everything. “I just wouldn’t use the word ‘erotic’ – it brings up different ideas for me. I just think we tried to make a good picture, you know?,” Dornan told the Sunday Times. Meanwhile, Johnson throws some cold water on anyone expecting anything too steamy. “I didn’t want it to be graphically explicit, and I know that’s going to be disappointing to some people,” Johnson says. “It’s the build up and titillation of touch and sensuality. So I don’t think it goes into the realm of porn.

Regardless, I don’t think this is one you’ll want to bring your parents to.

Interest in the film is high, though, considering the E.L. James book it’s based on has sold over 100 million copies. We’ll see what all this hype leads to when Fifty Shades of Grey opens in theaters on February 13th.
