The new trailer is pretty good but lacks the emotional depth you find in similar movies. Being one of the first real attempts at a superhero film starring a female lead, you want to be given reasons why this film will be worth your money yet, apart from some great action sequences, I’m just not seeing it yet.
The trailer comes across like the first Captain America film. The weakest among the Steve Rogers films, it was set mainly during World War Two and went out of its way to feel like a film from that era which frankly took me out of it. I wasn’t a fan of Joe Johnston coming into the movie and didn’t leave one coming out. I loved Chris Evans as Captain America and Hayley Atwell as Agent Peggy Carter stole the film with her performance, yet the period piece took me out of the story. It felt fake. Things didn’t really start working for me until Steve woke up in modern day New York.
That’s not to say I’m not excited for this movie. I can see some of the comments in the comments section below though. ‘How come this site never has anything good to say about DC movies?’ ‘Are they getting money from Marvel to badmouth DC?’ While I would love it if DC sent me thousands of dollars to fawn over their movies, that hasn’t happened. I simply give my opinion. My opinion about this movie is that the advertising campaign has been lackluster to say the least which is a disservice to what could be a great film. I haven’t seen Gal Gadot in much but from what I have seen, I think she’s a great choice for Wonder Woman. Chris Pine’s work speaks for itself. This could be a great movie and despite the bad trailers, I’m going to see it and probably enjoy it. DC has just gone out of their way to make their films unnecessarily dark which I just don’t get.
