First Look At Brenton Thwaites’ Robin In Titans

Call me cynical, but I’ve always felt that tackling Robin in live-action to be a challenging prospect. So far, no interpretation has ever really cracked the code in a believable way, despite the character being a beloved one in the DC canon. With their streaming service DC Universe, I wasn’t fully confident that one of their big properties, Titans, would actually do a serviceable job. It’s a TV show with a TV budget, and while there are plenty of heroes who have been done justice on the small screen, Robin has always felt untouchable to me. Add in the fact that I’m not a huge fan of actor Brenton Thwaites, and you have a perfect storm of skepticism brewing.

Today, DC Universe finally released full details of their streaming service, which includes old movies and TV shows, new original content (like Titans), and a catalog of classic comic books. In their press release, they revealed our first full look at the actor as Robin.

You know what? I really like it. Often have some DC CW shows resorted to full-on goofy-looking outfits, but this looks like a step closer to what we saw in The Dark Knight, where the costumes were functional AND had a theme to it. I could totally stand to watch a hero run around in this outfit.

Below is the official synopsis for Titans:

Titans follows young heroes from across the DC Universe as they come of age and find belonging in a gritty take on the classic Teen Titans franchise. Dick Grayson and Rachel Roth, a special young girl possessed by a strange darkness, get embroiled in a conspiracy that could bring Hell on Earth. Joining them along the way are the hot-headed Starfire and loveable Beast Boy. Together they become a surrogate family and team of heroes.
