James Gunn has shared the first shot from his Superman movie which sees star David Corenswet suiting up to face… something deadly. The image was first shared on Instagram, but Gunn also posted it on his Threads profile. Feel free to check the link for the best quality image. I did my best with the one you can see in the header image above.
As you can see, Superman is in the process of suiting up to presumably tackle whatever the hell that thing is in the background. Director James Gunn has said numerous times that Lex Luthor is the primary antagonist of the film. Can we therefore assume this is something of Lex’s doing attacking metropolis? It looks dangerous enough to level the entire city in seconds. Though, so could Superman and he’s more than likely about to smash that thing to bits.
A few fans online have stared pouring over old comics, There are various potential inspirations for this enemy, Mongol’s Warworld, a weapon Lex made, and a few other orb like alien invaders over the years. There’s no way to tell and the only thing fans are ruling out is Brainiac. Not that I’m an expert but hard core Supes fans tell me online that this doesn’t seem to match anything Brainiac related from the comics. It is intriguing nonetheless.

As for the suit, I’ve already seen some criticism that because Corenswet is bending over it make it look baggy. Ergo, apparently that should not be the first shot seen, for some fans. I personally, on the other hand think it sums up the Human side of Clark. There is almost a sense of Clark putting the suit back on that he just started taking off after a hard day superheroing, I like that.
Though it’s tough to see, keen eyed fans have noted that this suit does seem to include the red trunks. So that will as always make some fans happy and other fans unhappy. Which will depend which side you fell on when Henry Cavill’s suit was first seen without trunks.
