It looks like fans of the MAZE RUNNER film series will have to wait an extra year for the third film, entitled MAZE RUNNER: THE DEATH CURE, to hit theaters. According to Deadline, the film has officially been pushed back from its original February 17, 2017 date to January 12, 2018.

This decision comes in the wake of the on-set injury of one if its stars Dylan O’Brien, who was hurt while filming a car scene for the threequel.

At the time of the injury back in March, it was unclear how extensive his injuries were. Here’s what the studio had to say at the time:

“Dylan O’Brien was injured yesterday while filming ‘MAZE RUNNER: THE DEATH CURE’ in Vancouver, Canada. He was immediately transferred to a local hospital for observation and treatment. Production on the film will be shut down while he recovers. Our thoughts go out to Dylan for a full and speedy recovery.”

Based on the comments from Fox, it seemed possible that they could shoot around the actor’s scenes and still make that release, but that appears to nolonger be the case.

These weren’t the only big date changes Fox made. In the same report from Deadline, a lot of changes and additions were made for other films such as MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS, Shane Black’s THE PREDATOR, ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL, and a couple of Fox/Marvel flicks, among many others.
