Properties in Hollywood rarely ever die. Sometimes they stay dormant for a while, but given the right circumstances, we’re bound to see practically every conceived property pop up at least twice. RUSH HOUR was a hit in the late 90s and early 2000s, and is in the works as a TV series, and along those same lines we have LETHAL WEAPON, a TV series based on the hit film series that spanned four films and eleven years.
TheWrap is now reporting that Fox has ordered a TV pilot that will work as a reboot of the franchise. The pilot will star actor Damon Wayans, who many might recognize from HAPPY ENDINGS, NEW GIRL, LET’S BE COPS, and the most recent episode of BROOKLYN NINE-NINE. He will be taking on the role of Roger Murtaugh, which was made famous by Danny Glover in the films. As of this writing, there is now word on who will be taking the role of Martin Riggs, who was played by Mel Gibson in the movies.
The series is executive produced by McG, who will also serve as the pilot’s director.
The synopsis for the series is as follows:
“When Texas cop and former Navy SEAL Martin Riggs suffers the loss of his wife and baby, he moves to Los Angeles to start anew. There, he gets partnered with LAPD detective Roger Murtaugh, who, having recently suffered a “minor†heart attack, must avoid any stress in his life.”
