This Summer, Fruits Basket -Prelude- with be in theaters in the US and Canada on June 25, 28, and 29. Crunchyroll has released the official trailer and I can’t wait to see this movie. The story of sweet Tohru Honda will come to a close and now I’m sad. I really loved the series, but it is best to end the story at a good spot instead of dragging it out too long. I won’t name any TV or movie series, but you know the one’s that just won’t quit. I’m glad this anime will be ending well. It’s already been well received in Japan when it was released back in February.

Debuting for the first time outside of Japan, the prequel film to the award-winning 2019 anime series Fruits Basket is a standalone story that will take fans back before Tohru became involved with the Soma family – who can turn into animals of the Zodiac when hugged by the opposite sex – diving into the life of her parents, Kyoko and Katsuya Honda, before they tragically died.
Why Do I Always Do This?
I saw the 2019 series last year. It took me a while to get this anime because I just assumed based on appearances that this anime wouldn’t be that enjoyable to me. I was wrong and I loved it. You’d think I would have learned by now being a fan of Chobits that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. Luckily, I wasn’t that late to the party. Sometimes it takes me many years to get to a show.
The Prelude’s Official Synopsis
Before there was Tohru and Kyo – there was Katsuya and Kyoko. Discover the turbulent beginning of Tohru’s mom’s dark past, and the man who breathed new hope into her. Watch the evolution of their love story and the birth of the Honda family, as this chapter completes the full adaptation of the heartwarming Fruits Baskets story.
Both the Japanese and English voice actors of these four characters from Fruits Basket 2019 have returned for the prelude. So sub purists and dub fans can both rejoice. We get a little knowledge of Kyoko’s past in the series, but I’m really excited to see more of her and with Katsuya. It’s been a really good year for anime and I’m excited to see this movie.
