Full Superman Trailer Is Here – But Does It Soar?

Some semi-related news today as The Fantastic Four: First Steps runtime is confirmed and a rumored Superman runtime is debunked.

The full Superman trailer is here, but as it flies across the internet, the question is, does it soar into the hearts of audiences? Superman arrives this July 11 in theatres, so check out what director James Gunn has been cooking with this one.

So, what do we think? I like it so far. It remains to be seen how it will work as a self-contained movie. However, tonally and visually, this works so far for me. That’s about all you can give when looking at a trailer.

There’s also plenty here which points to recent plot leak claims being true. Whilst I won’t get into any specifics here, I think we can talk about the rumored format of the film. Apparently the movie takes place across several days where Lex has something nasty for Superman to deal with. You can feel the disregard Lex has for Superman in this trailer. Plus, of course we also see some of what Lex has in store for Clark to handle. I’m interested if this will work narratively in a film?

Superman is definitely tonally more what I’m looking for compared to say, what Snyder delivered. Hey, if you’re one of the final remaining Snyderbots, you do you. This is just my opinion and it remains to be seen whether this lighter approach will attract the casual audience. That audience is what turns one of these comic book movies from a moderate success to a hit, or a flop to a profitable film.

Therefore, whilst I am excited to see Superman, I’m not sure if the rest of the world agrees yet. I guess we will find out this July.

What do you think of this first full Superman trailer from director James Gunn? Are you excited for the true beginning of the DCU, or not? Thoughts below.
