Future Of X-Men, Deadpool, Gambit, And More In Disney’s Hands Says Producer Lauren Shuler Donner

For the first time in a good while, the future of the X-Men universe is one big question mark. Sure, in the past, we’ve had periods where we didn’t know what was coming for a while, but we never haven’t really lived in a world where we would possibly be going without an X-Men film for the foreseeable future. But with Disney acquiring Fox, we find ourselves in that very predicament.

Longtime X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner has seemingly come to terms with this new blank future, and in her comments while at the Legion panel for the TV Critics Association press tour, really seems to have faith in Kevin Feige, who will be taking the reins of all Marvel franchises licensed by Fox.

“Kevin (Feige) and I started the first movie, he worked for me, he has a great story sense when it comes to weaving each world together, I trust him and I trust where he will take it. I don’t know what Kevin is thinking, I think he’s still dealing with the wealth of characters and trying to make sense of it all.”

Regarding whether or not she’ll be involved in the MCU should the X-Men be cast into the mix, she said:

“I don’t know, I don’t think so, certainly in name credit, it’s up to Kevin (Feige). I don’t know what Kevin is thinking, I think he’s still dealing with the wealth of characters and trying to make sense of it all.”

As it stands, there are plenty of spin-offs in development. Last we heard, they were likely to get the chop, but according to Donner, that’s still up to the House of Mouse.

“That is up to Disney. That really is up to Disney. I hope so, but that’s up to them.”

And regarding the Deadpool and X-Force franchises?

“Same as everything. This is all now in Disney’s playground and they get to decide. At least we know it’s in good hands. Everybody’s worked really hard up to now on the Fox side but now it’s going to be Disney’s call.”

Well, Disney certainly has a lot of big decisions to make. What would you do? Let us know down below!
