Game Of Throne Prequel Pilot With Naomi Watts Not Moving Forward At HBO

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms - Game of Thrones spin-off (prequel) Hedge Knight series will shoot in Spring, 2024.

This has been a rough 24 hours for fans of Game of Thrones. Last night, it was announced that the original show creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss would not be doing their Star Wars trilogy (though I can see that as being good news for some of you who hated that last season of Game of Thrones), and now, we have reports surrounding the prequel spinoff series that was gaining momentum at HBO.

According to Deadline, the prequel series written by Jane Goldman and starring Naomi Watts has officially been given the redlight. While this has not been confirmed by HBO, Goldman has reportedly been emailing her cast and crew, telling everyone that the pilot is dead.

This was the series that had gained tons of momentum and was even co-created by A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin. This development comes following a lengthy post-production of the pilot, which shot in Northern Ireland, though it’s not clear why this project has essentially fallen in on itself.

Luckily, if you’re still hoping to return to the world of Westeros, there are still other spinoffs in development, including one that was greenlit for a pilot last month.

If nothing else, this can be evidence of a high standard the network has for the franchise, especially after the disappointing conclusion of the core series.
