Game Of Thrones Actress On The Disappointing Final Season

Disclaimer: This post contains spoilers for the final season of Game of Thrones.

By this point, virtually everyone out there has said their piece about the final season of Game of Thrones. The general consensus out there seems to be that the showrunners should have gone on more than eight seasons to finish out the story. I’ve heard some fans push for nine, but most seem to think that 10 should have been the minimum length to wrap things up.

This opinion has been widely shared by many, including our very own Game of Thrones nut Cam Clark. But what does one actress have to say about the matter. Speaking with actress Carice van Houten, who plays everyone’s favorite red priestess Melisandre, Deadline asked if she could understand fans’ frustration over the seemingly abrupt ending.

Here’s what she said:

“I could in a way but I also felt it was bound to happen after eight years of expectation. Everyone has their own theories and wishes. It’s hard to do it ‘right,’ to wrap it up in a bow. Everyone has a right to their opinion but it didn’t bother me. I loved it when the dragon Drogon destroyed the throne, for example. Those moments were amazing. The fact there’s discussion about it is a good sign, though.”

Indeed, I think many agree there were some great moments, but it had more to do with the pacing between those moments that suffered from the truncated runtime.

But, what’s done is done. The series is moving on to a prequel, and we can hope that, with no source material to go off of, that the showrunners can do a better job of following through with the promise of their setup than was done with the final season of Game of Thrones.
